RE: 2010 Duramax - over 700 lbs-ft?

Since GM is spending $75 million on the 2010 Duramax EPA upgrades they will have to charge at least $10,000 for the 2010 Duramax option to break even since there will be alot less unit sales. I bet many will keep their current diesel pickups for a very long time before selling or trading them in since trade in values dropped so much.
Must be back from the piston slap mechanic I see, trolling another good informative post. Have you had a compression check lately?
Just because YOU had piston slap does not mean everyone does. Come down to the Hilton Grand Vacations Club at SeaWorld International Center here in Orlando Florida with some money and I will start it for you. Lets make a $1,000 bet or something like that otherwise crawl back in your hole.
Still effects the resale as you a master of quoting. whether you have it or not.

RE: Need advice for 2500hd!!

Mikehart92, thx for the warning but I will never suggest anything here that I have not proven or ran myself, sorry about your dads fuel pump issue, but seafoam applications were used on my truck that towed a heavy 5er and other things for 102+K miles, it is a fuel additive that has been around for years and recommend it highly after use forever.

RE: Holy Horsepower, Batman

6-7K for 150~ ftlb's of tq...reduced mileage, no drivetrain...the diesel owner has to be smiling. and resale is opposite also, who buys a blown used toyota? at least the dealers throw in a kicker for themselves, the need some cash too. or you can pay them when the drivetrain falls out of the bottom, either way. where is all that air gonna go? out the factory exhaust? gonna need that too. gotta run on 91 oct dont ya, more than diesel in some locations. neat novelty for the millionaire dragger type folks of the toyota land, but no where near reasonable for the common rv'er.

RE: 2010 Duramax - over 700 lbs-ft?

"Do you think anyone will really care?
A bit naive don't you think? Why has there been (and continues to be) a "power war" between the big 3 diesel truck (Ford/GM/Dodge)?
Lets look at the last few years of diesel engines in pickup trucks:
- 2001 GM introduces the Duramax with 520tq. Dodge/Cummins introduces the "HO" version of the 5.9L Cummmins with 505tq, up from 460. Ford 7.3L tq goes to 500 lbs-ft.
- 2003, Dodge/Cummins introduces the 305hp/555tq version of the HO Cummins. Ford ups the diesel hp/tq in the F250/350 to 325hp/560tq.
- 2004, GM introduces the LLY version of the Duramax with 310hp/590tq. 2004.5 Dodge/Cummins breaks the "600" tq barrier with the 325hp/600tq version of the 5.9L Cummins. GM responds with the 310hp/605tq version of the LLY in 2005.
- 2006, Cummins ups the tq to 610, then GM goes to the LBZ with 350hp/650tq.
- And on it goes. Been living under a rock the last few years? Or just into bashing diesels based on inflamitory claims and ignorance?
You're 100% wrong. Diesel buyers need big power to move big loads. Also, the diesel aftermarket that sells millions of dollars worth of products designed to increase tq and hp says you're full of it. Not everyone has a 15' RV."
Exactly.

RE: DO ANY OTHER GMC 6.0 LITER GAS ENGINES HAVE THIS PROBLEM

no cure...fought that battle for years, the 8.1 6.0 and some 5.3's all do it, seafoam it thru the pcv valve once and a while and it helps some...pistonslap.com...kind of a negative site but there is some good info on there.
I guess I have the only 8.1 with no piston slap.:R My 8.1 van sits for weeks at a time between startups and is as quiet as my Scion xB.
your 8.1 could never do wrong anyhow sits for weeks but tows all the time with bogus mileage reports?..outpulls a diesel, never slaps(BS) and is worth more than a new caddy. The slapping is a common issue with the gen 3 gm gassers, and always will be. mine pulled great without an issue for tons of miles. Resale is a huge killer though, keep it and you will be OK, they run like crazy but selling them is a Mess! clickety clackety clock....

RE: Diesel vs gas......................

Drove the 7.3 liter for a few days hauling a small tractor for a project I have. You really have to be well into the RPM for power and after a quick burst it’s pretty much gone.
The whirling turbo sounds impressive and it fun to drive empty, but their is not comparison for pulling a heavy load.
Unless the new 6.6 liter diesels have a significant performance advantage over this 7.3 turbo I can understand why no one has stepped forward for a comparison pull against the 8.1L.
Not only are there several that have surpassed the 8.1 in various ways with their diesel, the last 7.3 made had 250 HP @2600 RPM and 505 lb/ft @ 1600 RPM, whereas the 6.6 has 360hp and 650 TQ, 110 hp and 145 tq more..you do the math. the late model 5.9, the newer 6.7 and the 6.0/6.4 powerstroke will destroy any big block towing/mileage/resale etc...it's proven end of story. by the way I-95 is a molehill at best.

RE: Mechanic almost destroyed my transmission

DH (the mechanic) says: why not find someone who knows what they are doing and take it to them? We don't all "drag our knuckles" :)
Some of us are actual professionals...trained and experienced. How many Allison transmissions do you have in your "backyard"? I don't have any...
Got one in the garage though..;) The ally is a dream to maintain and flush yourself.

RE: Diesel vs gas......................

Today, fuel costs have flipped. The average price of diesel has risen by $2.00 a gallon, to $4.80, while regular unleaded has 'only' increased 85 cents, to $4.01 a gallon, according to AAA. The price difference is costing diesel owners as much as a $1,000 more annually to fill up their trucks than comparable pickups with gas engines.
As a result, Black Book's research shows the resale values of 2005 to 2007 diesel-powered heavy-duty pickups have plummeted an average $5,900 since January, while gasoline-powered three-quarter and one-tons have fallen $3,000. $5,900 represents as much as a 20-25 percent decline in vehicle value.
Diesel Deflation: Diesel Truck Demand and Resale Values Drop Dramatically
Just buy another diesel, and get over the Torque envy! we get it. Just like the guy that brags about his D**K size, your claims are bogus.

RE: Duramax diesel smell

Quick guess would be an oxygen sensor or some such thing, since it sounds as if you're not getting proper combustion. It could be a lower grade of fuel, thought that shouldn't be the case.
Try burning cooking oil...smells like Fried Chicken!! :-) Haha!
Dude. thx 4 trying to help but at least lead the op into the direction that you actually know what you are talking about.
